Mash the Avocado: Next, you'll need to mash the avocado. Ensure to break down any small lumps for a smoother texture. The most effective way to do this is by pushing scooped avocado through a fine metal strainer.

Combine Chocolate and Avocado: Once your chocolate is melted, turn off the heat and move the bowl to a counter. Add the mashed avocado and matcha powder to the bowl and stir to combine. The mixture will start to harden at this point.

Chill the Mixture: After combining your ingredients, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill it for around thirty minutes.

Recipe Variation Ideas for Vegan Truffles

This delicious vegan truffles recipe is so flavorful and easy to make you'll want to try out some of these delicious variations! Here are some great ideas:

  • Coconut or Nut Coating: If you're looking to change up the texture and flavor of your vegan truffles, this variation is for you. Instead of using cacao powder for coating, use shredded coconut or finely chopped nuts like almonds or peanuts. This adds a delicious crunch and an extra layer of flavor to your truffles.
  • Caramel Filled Truffles: If you're a fan of the classic chocolate-caramel combination, this variation is for you. Make some vegan caramel using the recipe found in this Toffee Pudding and add a dollop inside each truffle before rolling them. The caramel adds a delightful surprise and a burst of sweetness to the truffles.
  • Try it with Peanut Butter: For a nutty twist to your vegan truffles, consider adding some peanut butter to the mixture. The peanut butter will add a creamy texture and a rich, nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with the dark chocolate.
  • Use Coconut Cream: If you're looking for a creamier texture and a subtle coconut flavor, swap the pureed avocado with full-fat coconut cream. This will give your vegan truffles a silky, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
  • Add a Touch of Sea Salt: For a sophisticated twist, sprinkle a tiny bit of sea salt on top of your truffles. The salt enhances the sweetness of the chocolate and brings out the flavor of the other ingredients, making your vegan truffles even more irresistible.
  • Vanilla Flavored Truffles: If you're a fan of the classic vanilla-chocolate combination, this variation is for you. Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the mixture for a subtle yet deliciouis vanilla flavor that compliments the dark chocolate perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of chocolate should I use for this recipe?

For this vegan truffles recipe, I recommend using Hu dark chocolate. This chocolate is dairy-free, sugar-free, oil-free, and soy-free making it perfect for this vegan recipe. You can also use other vegan chocolate chips or bars.

Can I use something other than cacao powder for coating the truffles?

Absolutely! If you don't have cacao powder on hand, you can use shredded coconut or finely chopped nuts for coating the truffles. This can add an extra layer of flavor and texture to your vegan chocolate truffles.

Can I add any extra flavors to these vegan truffles?

Yes, you can melt some more vegan chocolate and drizzle the truffles with it for added richness. You can also prepare vegan caramel, like the one found in this Toffee Pudding recipe, and put some caramel inside the truffles for extra sweetness.

How to Store Leftover Vegan Truffles

If you've whipped up a batch of our delicious vegan chocolate truffles and find yourself with leftovers, don't worry! Storing these little bites of dark chocolate and coconut cream goodness is easy, and they'll keep their flavor and texture beautifully.

In the Fridge: Place leftover truffles in an airtight container separated with parchment paper to prevent them from sticking together. Store them in the refrigerator for up to five days. When you're ready to enjoy them, just take them out of the fridge and let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften a bit.

Freezing: I don’t recommend storing them in the freezer since the pureed avocado and chocolate mixture can become grainy when frozen and thawed, which can affect the smooth texture of your truffles.
