Fact: wool is just as ideal for summer as it is for winter, courtesy of its natural properties that wicks moisture and ventilate, making it an unbeatable summer fabric like linen. Indochino, in particular, makes lightweight (at only 225 GSM in fabric weight!) but still 100% wool suits that will keep you feeling cool and dry, and this particular gray style is great for office and business fits. But our favorite part about Indochino is the brand's customization services: unless you're constantly in and out of bulking and cutting, you can get a perfectly tailored-to-you summer suit here.

What to Look for in Summer Suits for Men

Say Goodbye to Sweat With These Lightweight Summer Suits (27)

Fabric: For summer suits, the best materials are often light and breathable. Linen and seersucker make the top of the list: they're naturally breathable which means max ventilation and therefore max coolness. Silk, cotton twill, and some tech fiber blends are also easy and breezy for summer suits.

As we mentioned, thick wool suits are a no-go as the temperatures start rising, but thankfully there’s the option of tropical, lightweight wool that’s woven with larger gaps for breathability. And in case you need a refresher: lightweight wool is a top-tier summer fabric since it's naturally breathable, moisture-wicking, and quick-drying. Merino wool, on top of that, offers four-way stretch and temperature regulation for an on-the-go summer style. A wool-linen blend, on the other hand, offers the best of both worlds: wool performance and linen freshness.

Fit: Because summer suits are often lightweight with softer constructions, it's easy for men to just opt for a looser fit that makes sense in theory for more comfort and breathability. But we want to warn you of how sloppy you might look in a not-properly-tailored fit—i.e., a loose-fit summer suit isn't one that'll actually keep you looking cool. Fit plays no role here, it's only the right fabric that'll keep you feeling cool, so don’t get lazy and skip the tailor. Or if you don't have the energy for tailoring, slim fit or tailored/tapered fit is your best bet.

Lining: A lining is the second layer of fabric, which is stitched to the outer. When it comes to the construction of your lightweight suit, unlined—and therefore often unstructured suits—will also keep you much cooler in the summer months because they lose the extra weight that a full lining adds to the suit (but you risk showing the full look of the outer shell fabric and the smoothness of sliding a blazer or trouser on and off). But because most linings are made of viscose, rayon, or even silk and satin, they're naturally cool to touch and breathable as well, and lightweight to boot. Therefore, while unlined is the best way to go for summer suits for men, lined suits shouldn't be too much of a concern to stop you from purchasing.

Color: You’ll have the best luck not sweating it all out by sticking to lighter and brighter colors like pastels and soft grays to absorb heat. If you are going for a black or navy style for an elevated vibe, just keep the above fabric and fit notes in mind.

How We Selected

Say Goodbye to Sweat With These Lightweight Summer Suits (28)

To find the best summer suits, our editors and writers have personally tried on a variety of lightweight, breathable blazers and slacks in linen or seersucker and put them to the test on different occasions, such as to the office, a dressed-up party, or even a wedding. From there, our testing editors evaluated these summer suits by their price, performance (breathability, stretch, weight, and any anti-sweat and anti-odor qualities), and versatility to narrow down our selection to these 14 best summer suits for men. Specifically, we're looking for styles that are not trendy or trend-chasing (so no baggy fits or graphics here and there); instead, our picks of the best summer suits all fit great even on buff guys, provide a ton of value at reasonable price points, and come in designs that will look great years from now.

FAQs

What is the best material for a lightweight suit? ›

Consider linen or cotton

A good fabric type that's well-balanced between linen and wool is cotton. Cotton fabric suits offer sufficient density to handle rain, humid weather, especially if it's lined, and still remain very breathable and lightweight.

What kind of suit do you wear in the summer? ›

There are many reasons why you should opt for cotton suits in the summer. As a highly breathable fabric, cotton allows for air to circulate around the body and is great at promoting ventilation.

What is the breathable summer suit? ›

If you choose a cotton suit or a cotton shirt, you'll get all that comfort and breathability. That means it'll be ideal for those all-day, hot-weather events, and you won't overheat while you're commuting into the office. If you're looking for even more comfort, choose a cotton suit with a bit of stretch in the blend.

How to survive in a suit in hot weather? ›

Choose the Right Fabric

That includes linen, cotton, or certain wool types, which have excellent air ventilation properties. Linen is usually the go-to fabric in the summer season because of its thinness, which makes it naturally breathable and light to wear.

What is the best weight for a summer suit? ›

7oz – 9oz: A lightweight suit that will help keep you cool in the heat. Ideal for summer or trips abroad (where warm weather is guaranteed). 9.5oz – 11oz: Light to mid weight. Suitable for much of the year, in particular late spring or early autumn (the transitional seasons).

Are wool suits too hot for summer? ›

Popular to contrary perception, wool is highly absorbent in nature and dries quickly as well. It's also lightweight, so suits in wool and wool-blend would be a great investment when the temperatures soar. It's all about shedding the load. This way your skin will be able to breathe freely.

Which fabric is best for summer for men? ›

Cotton has always been known as the ideal hot weather fabric, thanks to its natural breathability and soft feel on the skin, while polyester is a more durable, easy-to-move-in fabric.

What is the best suit color for summer? ›

Dark colours absorb heat, while light colours reflect it, which is why it's important to pick the right suit colour. The best colours you could pick for a suit in summer are tan, off white, beige, gray or light blue. If you want to play it safe, Khakis, light grays and baby blue have got you covered.

How do you keep a suit cool in the summer? ›

Here are some tips to help you stop sweating during the summer while wearing a suit: Choose the right fabric: Opt for lightweight and breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, seersucker or coffee fabrics. These materials allow air to flow through the suit, helping to keep you cool and reduce sweating.

What is the coolest most breathable fabric? ›

Plant-based fabrics, like cotton, linen, and bamboo, are the most breathable fabrics, making them ideal for clothing and bedding. Animal-based fabrics like silk and wool are also breathable, and all of the above allow for easy air circulation, wick away perspiration, and to help keep the body cool.

What is the best color to keep cool? ›

White. It's no surprise white came up as the color that stayed the coolest from the results. Temperature readings showed the surfaces of the white shirts wavered around 86 degrees Fahrenheit, which is considerably low compared to the 122 degrees Fahrenheit of the dark green shirts.

Does sweat ruin a suit? ›

Even though your suit may not look unclean on the surface (unless you spill something on it) your skin's oils and the sweating can leave unneeded and harmful residue on your suit that can damage the fabric causing your suit to look old and worn.

Do you wear your suit jacket while eating? ›

Sitting down with the jacket buttoned can ruin the shape of your suit. Be sure to unbutton the suit jacket to feel more comfortable and prevent a button popping during a dinner or business lunch. It's a big part of suit etiquette and will also help you feel more relaxed and at ease - rather than buttoned in!

What material is a cheap suit made of? ›

Synthetics like polyester, viscose, and nylon can be found in budget brands of suits, but they don't breathe and tend to look a little cheap.

What is the best fabric for a lightweight jacket? ›

Cotton Twill: Cotton twill is a versatile fabric choice for lightweight jackets. It's comfortable, breathable, and can be treated for water resistance. It's also easy to dye, allowing for a wide range of color options.

What is the most breathable suit lining? ›

Jacket linings can be made from a variety of materials, including silk, polyester, cotton, and rayon. Silk is often considered the gold standard for jacket linings because it is soft, lightweight, and breathable. Polyester is a popular choice for jacket linings because it is affordable, durable, and easy to care for.

What material are the best suits made of? ›

Just be aware that high-quality suits can be made of wool, cotton, linen, silk, cashmere, mohair, and various blends of these materials. Lower-quality suits tend to be made with synthetic cloth, such as microfiber. Only wear these if you have allergic reactions to the aforementioned cloths, or if you're a vegan.
